Driving LGNZ’s advocacy priorities: join a reference group
15 April 2026
LGNZ is setting up a reference group for each of our advocacy priorities:
- Financially sustainable and cost-effective local government
- Meeting current and future infrastructure needs
- Resilient regional communities, economies, and environments
- A responsive and accountable local government system (including structure).
We want a range of people on these groups: Mayors, Chairs, councillors and expert council staff. The workload is likely to be three meetings a year plus some engagement outside meetings. Sign up is EOI only and LGNZ’s National Council will decide on the final groups.
Desired knowledge or expertise could include:

o Local government funding and finance; key cost drivers; procurement; CCOs; shared services - Meeting current and future infrastructure needs
o Infrastructure planning and delivery; transport; water; community infrastructure; urban development - Resilient regional communities, economies, and environments
o Planning; climate adaptation, environmental management; emergency management; economic development - A responsive and accountable local government system (including structure)
o Local Government Act requirements around LTP and performance management; local elections; experience of Local Government Commission reorganisation investigations.
