LGNZ President and Vice President elected unopposed
10 June 2026
Gisborne Mayor Rehette Stoltz and Waimakariri Mayor Dan Gordon were elected this week as Local Government New Zealand President and Vice President, respectively.
President Stoltz and Vice President Gordon have been filling these roles since December, and their appointments to serve until 2029 were uncontested.
Chief Executive Scott Necklen says Stoltz and Gordon have provided crucial leadership to the sector and the LGNZ team during a period of significant change, and congratulated them on their appointments for the triennium ahead.
Rehette Stoltz says her focus as LGNZ President remains clear: to bring local voices into national policy, influence decisions early, and work with government to deliver practical solutions.
“Local government is facing a reform storm and supporting members is a key priority for me. LGNZ ensures councils can engage, influence and connect, by providing advice, resources, events and services for elected members," she says.
“Six months ago, our leadership team took a moment to pause and reflect on the kind of organisation LGNZ needs to be. Since then, we’ve reset our strategic direction and advocacy, to ensure LGNZ is member-led and solutions-focussed."
