LGNZ represents councils across the country and, with SOLGM, is leading a national campaign to encourage the best candidates to stand and to increase voter turnout at the October 2019 local elections.
But it’s not our campaign. Councils throughout New Zealand are actively supporting and promoting VOTE 2019 in their districts, towns, cities and regions. VOTE 2019 also involves people in national agencies, organisations and businesses who have an interest in the best local government for New Zealand.
Mostly, VOTE 2019 is for New Zealanders. Local government touches every one of us, every day. Our communities, our businesses, our regions, our nation – all are stronger when Kiwis contribute to local elections, whether it is by standing or by voting. VOTE 2019 is a resounding voice for more participation in local elections.
LGNZ would like to thank all our partners for supporting VOTE 2019 and helping us to encourage voters and candidates to take part in the October 2019 local elections.
LGNZ has a number of VOTE 2019 partners on board, including:
Federated Farmers, Ministry for Women, Multicultural NZ, Neighbourly, New Zealand Public Service Association (PSA), Otaki Today, Policy, EquiP, Business Wairarapa, Canterbury Employers' Chamber of Commerce, Employers & Manufacturers Association, South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, Southland Chamber of Commerce and Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
Taking care of your interests
Everyone has a relationship with local government, even if it’s by paying rates or rent. In terms of business, the interest could be more direct. What local government does may impact on:
- how and where you operate;
- what you can and cannot do; and
- your bottom line.
It’s our belief that local government and major stakeholders should work more closely together. We live and work in mutual communities and share areas of interest. It follows that we have a common interest in building the best local government for our communities and for the country.
Opportunities for businesses to be involved
VOTE 2019 presents businesses with the opportunity to work at a national, regional or local level with LGNZ and local governments in a public good campaign that really matters.
Supporting VOTE 2019 through their communications and customer and member channels meant taking care of their own interests, as well as promoting the interests of their staff, community and their country.
LGNZ partner options do not entail a financial contribution but rather business' support in promoting VOTE 2019 to potential candidates and/or, as appropriate, voters.
