2020 Young Elected Members’ Hui
LGNZ, in conjunction with Hutt City Council, is holding the annual Young Elected Members’ (YEM) Hui from 19 – 21 November 2020.
Taking place in Lower Hutt, we invite all current elected members of local authorities, local boards and community boards who were under the age of 40 on polling day to attend.
The Hui theme is He Ao Hurihuri, Change is good and the two-and-a-half-day Hui will comprise of a range of workshops, guest presentations, discussion sessions and networking activities.
The Hui programme includes a “YEM Talks” session. This session is designed to provide delegates with an opportunity to present to the group on topics that are of interest and relevance to YEM. Each YEM Talk is followed up with question and discussion time. Delegates will be invited to put forward proposals for a YEM Talk following registration.
While attending the Hui, delegates can expect to:
- Network, exchange ideas and build strong relationships with other YEM and councils;
- Gain a better understanding of how YEM can more effectively engage, communicate and work with their communities; and
- Peer mentor and access practical support.

We are still finalising some activity details, but indicative costs are approximately $750 (GST inc) per person.
This cost includes all local transportation (including airport transfers), meals, activity costs and two nights’ accommodation. Delegates are responsible for organising their own travel to and from Lower Hutt.
Registrations close on Friday 23 October 2020 at 5.00pm
Note that to pay the registration fee your council will be required to raise a purchase order with LGNZ.
NOTE: If your region is under Level 3 COVID 19 requirements you will not be permitted to attend in person and LGNZ will accommodate the event by Zoom as much as possible. If all of New Zealand is under Level 3 COVID 19 requirements the event will not occur.
