2019 Elected Member Induction CM Banner v2

The workshops will be covering high-level, nationally relevant issues affecting the local government sector, as well as covering crucial high-level introductions to key areas such as governance, strategy and the role of an elected member. This workshop does not get into the nitty-gritty of technical knowledge required for the role as this is covered elsewhere in the induction framework, specifically for those who need to learn these points. Instead, it supports elected members to start their good governance tasks by making effective decisions together for the benefit of their communities.

NOTE: These induction workshops are not suitable for community board members. Additional half-day workshops will be run concurrently at some locations for community board members.

Details will be coming soon about that.

Workshop purpose

To introduce elected members to their local government role, their key support networks and start the development journey towards being an effective community representative.

By the end of this workshop you will have:

  • identified local governments role and the key issues it faces;
  • defined your new role and the skills and knowledge required to succeed;
  • differentiated between governance and management focuses;
  • planned future actions by considering local government issues governors will face;
  • prepared for your emergency management role;
  • identified support systems for the upcoming tasks; and
  • outlined next steps for your effective community contributions.
