Deputy Mayor, Carterton District Council
Rebecca is Deputy Mayor at the Carterton District Council. Rebecca is 26 years old, married to Josh, and they have two young daughters. She graduated in 2013 from Victoria University, with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and History, and since then has worked in the community and economic development sector. Over the past years, Rebecca has had roles as a school account’s manager, young women’s leadership workshop coordinator, youth work facilitator, and coordinator of the local business association. It was while working for Rangatahi to Rangatira, a youth leadership organisation with a tikanga Maori focus, that she became more aware of local government and the impact it has on residents' lives. Seeing that there was no-one representing youth or young families on council, Rebecca decided to stand for election to provide that perspective. Fast forward a few years, and Rebecca is now Deputy Mayor. She is passionate about young people and their success, community development, parks and green spaces, and our natural resources and the environment. One of Rebecca’s main focusses has been on community engagement and participation including helping progress authentic relationships with local marae and iwi.
