Te Maruata Roopu Whakahaere (Co-chair)

Moko is Te Rarawa and Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa and hails from two small settlements in the Far North, Mitimiti in North Hokianga and Waihapa on the Whangaroa Harbour. He is a proud Northlander and after graduating from Waikato Univeristy with a Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) and a Bachelor of Arts in Te Reo Māori and Anthropology he returned north where he is also a teacher at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Kaikohe.

Moko is the Te Maruata representative on the YEM Committee and is excited to also be one of the Co-Chairs. He is a first-term councillor for the Kaikohe-Hokianga ward of the Far North District Council and holds the council’s Te Ao Māori portfolio. Moko also represents the Far North for the Mayors’ Taskforce for Jobs alongside Cr Rachel Smith. He is also on the Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board and the Far North Creative Communities Scheme and loves seeing funding go directly to worthy kaupapa in the community.
