Working together with central government

The recent general election sees the National Party return to Parliament as the majority party with support from a couple of minor parties.  This gives the Government a very similar look to the past three years.

LGNZ's relationship with central government has focused on the role local government plays in the economic and social life of this country.  There are significant opportunities for local and central government to work together to improve the quality of life in our communities while enhancing the economic performance of the nation.  The two are not mutually exclusive.

Our National Council will meet with the Prime Minister and relevant Government ministers in March next year at the Central Government Local Government Forum.  This forum is the pre-eminent means of engaging with central government...getting both sets of cards on the table.

The forum is our annual opportunity to identify priorities areas for the sector in the coming term and develop a plan of action for how we roll out those priorities.
