Time to limit Environment Court appeals process
It was interesting to see Minister Gerry Brownlee step in recently to help speed up the rebuild process in Christchurch by limiting the role of the Environment Court appeal process in Canterbury's rezoning of residential land.
This was a sensible move by the Government because without it the rebuild process in Christchurch would have been significantly held up.
LGNZ has been lobbying the Government for some time on the need to limit to the Environment court appeals process. While this decision is a one off it does help to highlight the problem as we continue our lobbying work.
