Outcomes from the Tourism Symposium
Leaders in tourism and local government are committed to working together to develop a shared vision for the growth of the sector.
The commitment came following a Tourism Symposium in Wellington hosted by Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ,) the Tourism Industry Association and the Regional Tourism Organisation of New Zealand.
As part of the symposium over 80 attendees from across New Zealand heard from speakers such as Associate Minister of Tourism Dr Jonathan Coleman, New Zealand Institute of Economic Research Principal Economist Shamubeel Eaqub and Kevin Bowler, chief executive of Tourism New Zealand.
Attendees also took part in workshop sessions which provided an opportunity to identify the key issues facing the sector. Following these discussions, local and central government representatives will work together with the tourism industry to resolve them.
"The symposium was a great forum for discussing the issues faced by the sector and to look ahead to future development," said LGNZ President Lawrence Yule.
