Local government focused on the future
All roads lead to Wellington next month as local government leaders and sector stakeholders converge on the capital for the 2011 Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) Annual Conference.
With a "future focus" theme the conference, running from 10 to 13 July, will bring together over 500 thought leaders, central government decision-makers and elected members.
"Councils play a lead role in planning for their communities' futures. Thinking and planning for the future of their communities is where elected members show leadership," said LGNZ President Lawrence Yule.
Features of Conference 2011 include presentations from entrepreneur Melissa Clark-Reynolds on growing a green future, Industrial Research chief executive Shaun Coffey on leadership and Harry Verhaar, senior director of energy, climate change and sustainability from Philips on lighting future cities.
Prime Minister John Key will open the conference and delegates will also hear from Local Government Minister Rodney Hide and Leader of the Opposition Phil Goff.
Sessions looking at spatial planning, Māori potential, the legacy of events and climate change will also be presented. Delegates can also learn about the ultra-fast broadband roll out, digital strategies and population trends.
