Christchurch memorial service
Last week I attended the memorial service in Christchurch as a representative of Local Government New Zealand.
The service, while emotional, was also and opportunity for us to support our Christchurch City Council and Environment Canterbury colleagues, and to honour those who lost their lives.
In the aftermath of the earthquake the local government sector has pulled together, with councils from across the country responding to Christchurch City Council's call for support with resources, money and personnel.
The rebuilding and recovery process for Christchurch will be arduous and we stand beside the Christchurch City Council, and its people.
Over the coming months and years LGNZ will work with Christchurch City Council and central government, where we can, to ensure the right decisions for the city are made at the right time.
