Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize 2012 nominations close soon
Nominations for the 2012 Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize close soon.
The prize, awarded every two years, recognises individuals and organisations who have made outstanding contributions to creating vibrant, liveable and sustainable urban communities, especially in the fields of:
- urban planning and projects
- urban policies and programmes
- urban management
- application of technology to urban solutions.
In 2010 the Prize went to Bilbao City Hall for its efforts in transforming Bilbao, Spain, from an obsolete, heavily-industrialized city into a thriving, knowledge-based economy. The jury noted that Bilbao has shown that strong leadership and a commitment to a systematic and long-term plan, based on solid processes and supporting infrastructure, are key factors to the success of a city's transformation.
