Pike River Mine accident

On behalf of mayors around New Zealand I'd like to offer my support to the community of Greymouth and to the Grey District Council Mayor Tony Kokshoorn. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We stand by the family and friends as they wait for news of the 29 men trapped in the Pike River Coal mine.

At a time like this the strength of a community shines through and it's truly heartening to see the people of Greymouth wrapping themselves around their friends in need who have loved ones whose lives hang in the balance. That strength brings hope, and hope is all we have. Let's hold on to that. We wish you all well - Kia Kaha - stand strong.
