Submissions requested on Gambling Regulations 2004

The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) has begun consulting on a proposed change to Gambling Regulations 2004, relating to the operation of gaming machines in pubs and clubs.

Currently gaming machine societies are effectively prohibited from making multi-year grants to community organisations - they can only make grants from available funds, not future proceeds.  Some societies and grant recipients think this gets in the way of long-term planning - eg granting funding to sports organisations looking ahead to the Olympic Games in  four years' time.

DIA has put out a consultation document inviting submissions on repealing the relevant Regulation, 16(g).  This would let societies commit in principle to making grants over more than one funding year.

Submissions are open until 17 December.  For further information on the proposal and for details on how you can make a submission please visit the DIA website.
