Palmerston North City Council takes the lead on literacy

Palmerston North City Council (PNCC) is boosting their quality of service and the skills of their workforce in one hit with workplace literacy training.

Four courses on basic reading, writing, maths and communication have been developed for staff in the council's service delivery unit, City Enterprises, as well as lessons in leadership and study skills.

The courses, known as Foundation Skills, got underway in December 2008 and has become so popular there's now a waiting list for participants.

PNCC sees upskilling its staff and providing high-quality professional services as a major part of achieving its strategic vision:  to be seen as a vibrant, caring, creative and sustainable city, as well as being strongly committed to giving residents value from their rates.

More detail on the Foundation Skills programme will be available in next month's QR newsletter, or you can visit the Skills Highway website.
