Elections 2010

Hoardings have been erected, candidate meetings are being held and voting papers have been delivered.  The local body elections are well underway.

By now, many candidates know about, and are on, http://www.elections2010.co.nz/.  I certainly am.

This portal, believed to be a world first, is a platform for candidates to speak directly to voters; sharing their vision for their community through video messages and answering questions from voters.

Recently the website received more than 250,000 visits over a two day period.  With such large numbers visiting the site, it's important candidates make full use of it.

LGNZ supports the portal and we're expecting interest to ramp up as more and more people seek information additional to that which is provided in the voting pack.

With less than two weeks to go until the elections, many candidates are already on the site and have loaded their profile, but there are still some gaps.  Any candidate who hasn't loaded a profile will only have their name and a blank profile page listed on the site.  Not a good look.  So I urge you to urge any candidate you know to make sure their profile is on elections2010.

It's not too late.  Profiles can be loaded, and candidate profile pages remain available for updating, right up until midnight Friday 8 October.
