Conference 2010 - from the floor
Over 500 delegates from mayors and elected members through to local government stake holders and government Ministers are in Auckland today and tomorrow for the Local Government New Zealand Conference 2010 - Building Prosperous Places.
Councils play a fundamental role in strengthening their local economies and during conference we'll be looking at ways to build on that role. Our keynote speakers have a variety of perspectives and backgrounds, and I'm looking forward to what they have to say.
Making their debut at conference will be two very significant documents. The first is a report on work done and ongoing by BERL, leading economic research, analysis, advice company, on six priority areas for local government economic development work, including relevant case studies. The research documents how our own work relates to central government's economic growth agenda and the value we add to our regions.
On Wednesday, at our AGM, the 2009/10 Annual Report will be tabled. This sets out the progress we've made in the past year as we've worked on behalf of our members on issues affecting all of local government.
