Performance Excellence in Local Government

How does your council's performance stack up? Do you want to improve the quality of your performance, particularly in council operations relating to the Resource Management Act? Would you like an external assessment of your progress?

The Ministry for the Environment, the Department of Internal Affairs and Local Government New Zealand, along with Business Excellence New Zealand, are pleased to launch the 2006 Performance Excellence in Local Government Programme.

This year, in addition to the long running Performance Excellence Study Awards, a new 'entry level' approach to performance excellence has been introduced, which councils can undertake at any time during the year.

In the nine years that the Performance Excellence in Local Government Programme has been running, over 30 council representatives, including those from Far North District Council, Franklin District Council, Auckland Regional Council, Hamilton City Council, Hutt City Council, Christchurch City Council and Dunedin City Council, have participated in the study visit programme to the United States.

In 2006 all councils involved in the Performance Excellence in Local Government Programme will be eligible to join the September study visit to the United States.
