Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean Up Week

This week has been officially dedicated to cleaning up New Zealand. The Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean Up Week runs 19-25 September 2005.

Councils throughout New Zealand are supporting this campaign, that aims to get towns, cities and rural areas  litter free. This means putting policies and resources in place to ensure our environment is protected from litter and refuse.  It also means finding innovative and new ways to reduce, to re-use and to recycle to improve rubbish disposal.

New Zealand is recognised worldwide for its clean, green image and Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean Up Week aims to remind New Zealanders that we all have to take responsibility for keeping our town centres, green spaces, beaches and countryside clean.

To mark the event some councils have organised events to 'clean up' parts of their communities and are calling on members of the public to participate, encouraging people to be more responsible with their rubbish and recycling and to take ownership for keeping their community clean and green.
