Rural and provincial sector meeting update
Jointly chaired by the mayors of Opotiki and New Plymouth, representatives of the rural and provincial councils met in Wellington from 19-20 February to discuss common issues and meet with government representatives.

CLGF calls for early Fiji local government elections
The Commonwealth Local Government Forum, CLGF, which is the Designated Commonwealth Organisation for local government, has called on the Interim Government in Fiji to ensure that early local government elections are held and no later than October 2009, when they would have been due, following the Interim Governmentâs decision to terminate the term of elected councillors on 31 January 2009.
