CLGF urges restoration of democratic municipal councils in Fiji

The Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) which is the designated Commonwealth Organisation for local government, has urged the Interim Government in Fiji to reconsider its decision not to extend the term of all elected councillors past 31 January 2009 and to prohibit further council meetings, without any arrangements in place for new elections. Local Government New Zealand supports CLGF in its plea to the interim Government in Fiji.
