Public Libraries have been winners at the Computerworld Excellence Awards 2004 held in Auckland last Friday (June 25 2004). The awards now in their seventh year, honour notable achievements by IT professionals in such diverse sectors as government, education, small business and not-for-profit organisations.

Local Government New Zealand thanks the Minister of Local Government, Hon Chris Carter, for persuading his colleagues to agree to restore the right of mayors and council chairs to use a casting vote.

New Government Discussion Paper on Citizen Oaths
The Ministry of Justice has recently published a public discussion document on the future of our "Oaths and Affirmations". The document asks the question whether or not our oaths need modernising, and amongst the oaths that are considered is the "citizenship oath" used by local authorities at citizenship ceremonies.
