LGNZ has prepared a number of resources to assist community boards and concils to help build stronger relationships and support community boards to represent and advocate for community interests.

The New Zealand Community Board Executive Committee: A review of its role, purpose and structure (2011): The NZCBEC has represented community boards for nearly 10 years. This paper was prepared by Local Government New Zealand to review the status of the Executive, its relationship to the National Council of LGNZ, and implications that have been caused by the establishment of the new Auckland Council and its local boards.

Community Board Quiz (2011): Prepared by Dr Mike Reid for the 2011 biennial Community Board Conference.

Roles and Functions of Community Boards (2008): This report was prepared by Mary Richardson for the Community Boards' Executive Committee.  It describes the functions carried out by community boards, the working relationships between councils and community boards, and changes over time in how the community boards function.

The Local Government Act 2002 and Community Boards (2003): This guide outlines what the Local Government Act means for community boards.  Local Government Act affects community boards in a number of ways.  These cover relatively minor, but important changes to the role of boards and their composition, to more extensive changes to the way in which boards are established and disestablished.

The Local Government Commission
The Local Government Commission is an independent statutory body. Its main role is to make decisions on the structure and representation requirements of local government in New Zealand. On the website you will also find the Commission's determinations on local government representation reviews since 1998 and guidelines for the 2012 representation reviews.
