The New Zealand Community Board Executive Committee holds a conference about and for community boards every two years.
Community boards are a distinct part of our local government system. The biennial conference was introduced in 1997 to bring together the community boards of New Zealand to share practice, and to help improve the understanding of and improve the work of community boards.
The 9th Community Boards Conference will be hosted from 9-11 May 2013 by the Queenstown Lakes District Council and the Wanaka Community Board. More information will be available soon.
In 2011 the 8th Community Board Conference took place in Rotorua, hosted by the Rotorua District Council and the Rotorua Lakes Community Board.
Under the theme Communities on Board - The Changing Face of Community Governance, the 160 participants heard about what changes to community governance may mean for community boards, and also what community boards may mean for a changing community governance. To view the presentations from this conference, visit the Rotorua District Council website.
