Financial Governance 101
Why this course is for you
Making the right financial decisions is critical in all walks of life.
For those elected members whose knowledge and understanding of local authority finances will benefit their local community, the need is even greater.
This course is designed to enhance your fiscal knowledge in a way that will enable you to make better financial decisions on behalf of your council.
The group-based exercises and case studies will help you gain the skills and confidence necessary to understand and decode local government monetary systems and the processes and procedures around which they're structured.
Using your own council LTCCPs, you will learn how to:
- navigate your way through balance sheets
- identify and isolate critical data
- interpret and make best use of financial detail
- identify the questions you need to ask to aid your decision-making
- understand the implications, constraints and parameters of your final decisions
- influence council planning and budgeting processes.
Who should attend?
- Newly elected members will gain knowledge and foresight into good financial practice and governance.
- Those who are familiar and experienced in financial governance will benefit from a refresher look at best-practice processes and procedures.
We value a mix of new and experienced participants in small groups (maximum 20) so as to make best use of a diverse range of perspectives.
