Decision Making
"Decision Making - How does it really work?"
Why is this course for you?
Being elected by your community to represent your town or city is a great privilege, but one that holds great responsibility. It's your role as an elected member to make decisions that will postively impact on your community now and for years to come.
This course is designed to enhance your ability to make the right decisions for your community. It will provide an overview of the decision-making provisions of the Local Government Act 2002, including the purposes of local government and the role of local authorities. The workshop will incorporate decision-making information that has been developed by the Office of the Auditor General, case law on decision-making requirements, and a range of practical application ideas.
The workshop is designed to be interactive with plenty of opportunity for discussion and questions and will provide a range of tools for participants to use post workshop.
On completion of this workshop, attendees will:
- understand the processes for decision-making
- feel more confident and knowledgeable about the law and processes relating to decision-making, particularly the Local Government Act, Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act, and the Local Authorities (Members' Interests) Act

Who should attend?
- newly elected members will gain knowledge and foresight into good decision-making processes in the local government context
