The Waimakariri District is one of the fastest growing districts in the country. Based in Rangiora, approximately 30 minutes north of Christchurch, this vibrant Council is responsible for providing local government services to its community.
The Waimakariri District Council is seeking to appoint a Parks Advisor on a full time basis to manage, maintain and develop the District’s parks and associated recreation facilities. This position reports to the Parks and Recreation Team Leader.
The purpose of this position is to manage the District’s parks and reserves maintenance, tree and playground contracts on a day-to-day basis and, to plan, implement and manage capital projects. This position offers an opportunity to work in the parks sector and experience the full range of parks and reserve operational tasks.
To meet the demands of this role the successful applicant will have a relevant tertiary qualification and experience in parks, preferably in a local government environment. Candidates will also be able to demonstrate the following:
- Experience in contract and asset management
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in preparing and implementing capital projects
- A sound understanding of parks management
- The ability to work with a diverse range of community organisations
