Invitation

Invitation from the President of Local Government New Zealand

Lawrence YuleThere has never been a more crucial time to stay ahead of what is happening in local government in New Zealand.

I have much pleasure in inviting you to attend the Local Government New Zealand Conference. The conference reflects our changing external environment with the theme Local government: our place in the world.

The current world is constantly challenging our assumptions and offering up new challenges and opportunities. We will explore local government's role in leading and responding to communities through this period of change.

Our excellent speakers will cover how we can respond to the current economic climate, what we need to know about current regulatory changes, and how we address the major social issues affecting communities. You will also be informed about the latest legislative and policy developments affecting local government.

Please join me in Christchurch for a wonderful experience and to meet your elected members from around the country.

I look forward to seeing you.

Lawrence Yule, President
Local Government New Zealand

Invitation from the Mayor of Christchurch

Bob ParkerChristchurch is pleased to host the 2009 Local Government New Zealand Conference, showcasing to the country our beautiful Garden City and Christchurch's innovations in local government.

This conference is a chance for us to celebrate our successes, to share information, ideas and research, and together to embrace the challenges facing local government in New Zealand.

For our communities to develop, build and prosper, local government plays a much greater role than simply delivering the grassroots infrastructure of roading, water, sewage and waste disposal. We are also responsible for the social, environmental, economic and cultural well-being of our communities.

As community leaders we can make a difference to people's lives through the provision of facilities and services which shape our communities and create safe, vibrant places where people want to live, work and play.

I invite you all to Christchurch in July where we are proud to showcase our city, the gateway to Canterbury's playground of mountains, rivers, wineries and quaint towns.

I am looking forward to welcoming you to the Garden City.

Bob Parker
Mayor of Christchurch
