EquiP has been appointed by the Kawerau District Council to undertake the recruitment of their Chief Executive Officer.

The Kawerau District Council is based in the heart of the Bay of Plenty and boasts a natural beauty and peace thanks to the surrounding scenery. The district is one of New Zealand’s youngest, built in 1953, and is known for its friendly people and strong community spirit.

The Kawerau District Council is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide inspirational leadership, direction and management of the Council, and providing sound advice to the Mayor and elected members.

The CEO is accountable for managing council resources and for the delivery of excellent customer care and services to ratepayers and visitors, whilst ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.

You will be in charge of developing organisational culture and capability, decisively leading and empowering the senior management team and staff to deliver on the Council’s vision, values and objectives in a coordinated, corporate approach.

The CEO will be community minded; working to seek out new and existing opportunities in Kawerau.

You will act as the ambassador for the District, ensuring the Council is engaged in a working partnership with stakeholders. You will have an affinity with iwi, working hard to foster strong community relationships, especially with business.

You will be supported by the Mayor, Councillors, and Senior Management team, in order to drive high performing teams focused on delivering quality services to the ratepayer.

The successful candidate will be a good communicator and be proactive at seeking and fostering innovation within Council, and in the community. You will have a reasonable knowledge of the local government sector and a track record of success in senior management gained in the public or private sector.
